Trying to start something new is hard. Starting a lot of new things all at once is even harder. Our family kind of falls into a routine that is less productive than I would like, but we are trying to learn a new daily routine that incorporates more school and less TV.

Even though TV can be a great source of fun, entertainment and learning - I don't want it to be something that my kids learn to rely on to 'fill the silence'.

Later on I will provide you with a free downloadable template of my families schedule that we try to stick to throughout the day.

Everyone's schedule is going to be different, for instance, my family wakes up early and goes to bed fairly early. It is what works best us.

It takes time for our children to wind down from the day and actually fall asleep, usually about 30 minutes  sometimes up to an hour. Although, as long as they are resting, that's all that matters to us.

According to Sleep Advisor:

đŸ’¡
"The amount of sleep kids need depends on their age. Babies need the most at 12-16 hours. Children ages 1-2 should get 11-14 hours. Kids aged 3-5 need 10-13 hours. Children between the ages of 6 and 9 need 9-12 hours of shuteye, and teens require 8-10 hours. For children age 5 and younger, this amount includes naps." - Jill Zwarensteyn, Sleep Advisor

We made our schedule around when each of our children gets tired. They use staggered napping times so that I have time alone with each for more personalized learning and one on one time.

My kids are 15 months apart so they are different levels, whatever my daughter is learning is a review for my son. The time alone allows us to focus some new material for him and solidify information for her.

Down below I have provided a free downloadable schedule of our families daily routine. Kids may say they don't like routine, but knowing what to expect and what is expected of you makes life so much easier. That's not just for kids, but adults also - a little change in schedule is okay, but knowing what to do and when to do it makes our lives run smoother.

When trying to set a schedule for your family, you have to keep in mind of yours and your children's personalities. For us, my kids pop their heads off the pillow ready for the day, but other kids I know need time to wake up and they wake later.

If your child is a sleep late in the morning kid, maybe don't start school so early in the day. If you or your child don't want to be there, school isn't going to work out. It won't be fun or engaging and learning will be that much more difficult and stressful.

The point of homeschool is for learning to be fun and personalized. No better way for that to happen than for you to make a personalized learning schedule for kids. If your kids are older, try involving them in the process. This will allow them to feel like they have a say in their education. Good feels all around.

Also, don't think my families schedule is the best for everyone or that this our first schedule. There have been many schedules and it takes time to find the right one.
