The book Homeschooling for Absolute Beginners by Lorilee Lippincott really solidified me homeschooling my own children. This book really is as the name implies, for absolute beginners.

Lorilee is a homeschooling mom herself, and goes over so much information in a practical way. She goes step by step through her process and the processes of other homeschool parents through testimonials.

Now, I do have to admit, for me personally testimonials are hard for me get through while reading, but all the information that is provided is well worth the read.

Being new to homeschooling myself I was looking for some where to start. There is so much information out there, I didn't know where to start, and I was very overwhelmed. So, like most parents I started watching YouTube videos and researching books. I couldn't be happier landing on this book.

She starts out telling you her story on how she got started but goes into, why not homeschool? Reason's people don't think they can or don't want to, more importantly why she chose to homeschool. The educational stats of homeschooled children verses traditionally schooled children, without being over bearing saying you need to homeschool your children.

I want my kids to believe the world is a good place with mostly good people, while I am by their side to teach them safety and exceptions to that rule as need. - Lorilee Lippincott

This book really does a good job balancing and not pressuring parents into homeschool while still being informative.

One major thing that I enjoyed is she goes over different styles of teaching styles for different learning styles. I didn't realize there were different ways of teaching aside from visual, hands on or auditory learners.

She goes over so many things that I didn't realize went into it. Even though I am usually not a huge fan of testimonials, this book does a good job keeping them relevant to the specific topic she is writing about in the moment. The testimonials are used as evidence to back up her point real life homeschooling parents. The testimonials are from several different families, not just from Lorilee's point of view.

Overall the book goes over a lot of topics to get you thinking, but you will probably have to do more research to fully understand each topic. This isn't a slight to the book, there are a lot of things that you need consider before homeschooling and this book is a great introduction to those topics.

If you are interested in purchasing this book I don't think it will disappoint. I know that I learned a lot and I have more confidence in my ability to teach my own children thanks to this book.
